Web Authoring |
WHOI WWW Server CIS administers the main WHOI WWW server.
The main WHOI server (www.whoi.edu) is currently running Netscape
Enterprise 3 on an SGI. CIS also maintains several other web hosts
(science.whoi.edu,internal.whoi.edu, etc.) which are run on the Apache
server, also on an SGI.
Web Hosting
Any WHOI staff member can request
space on the WHOI WWW server for lab/department pages or for personal/research
pages. Currently there is no size limit imposed on websites, although
a guideline of 2 megabytes is suggested. If you anticipate needing
large amounts of webspace, for serving large datasets for example,
please contact the WHOI webmaster.
Access Statistics
Access statistics are available for individual websites on the
WHOI server. Users can request
either a simple page counter (see below) that updates when the page
is accessed, or a full analysis
of the accesses to a website.
Training
Online tutorials on using Netscape
Composer and an Introduction
to HTML are available, as well as classes
offered in the CIS Group Training Facility.
