Protecting Against Email Viruses and Worms

These tips should help minimize the various email worms and viruses that can come in. This should be used in conjuction with having Norton Antivirus and the latest virus definitions (available at the CIS Helpdesk) and always having the latest security updates on your PC.

Disable Cookies in Mail

1. From the menu bar, click Edit > Preferences

2. Expand the Privacy & Security category and then select the Cookies sub-menu.

3. Select Disable cookies in Mail & Newsgroups.

4. Click OK.

Disable JavaScript & Plugins in Mail

1. From the menu bar, click Edit > Preferences

2. Expand the Advanced category and then select the Scripts & Plugins sub-menu.

3. Under the Enable JavaScript for heading, deselect Mail & Newsgroups.

4. Under the Enable Plugins for heading, deselect Mail & Newsgroups.

5. Click OK.
