Activating the NT Microsoft TCP/IP Printing Service
- From the desktop, right click on the Network Neighborhood and
select Properties -> Services.
- If the Microsoft TCP/IP Printing service is not in the list
of available services, select Add.
- Choose Microsoft TCP/IP Printing and click OK. Note:
This will require the Windows NT CD.
- Restart your computer.
Setting up an LPR Printer in Windows NT4.0
From the Start menu, choose Settings -> Printers -> Add
Printer.
The following screen images indicate the choices you should make.
The printer is setup as a local printer so
- select My Computer and click Next.
- Select Add Port ... and choose LPR Port.
- Choose New Port.
You will need to specify the IP address of the networked printer
in the field Name or address of server providing lpd:
Supply the printer name in the field Name of printer or
print queue on that server:
(If you don't know the IP address and/or the printer name, please
contact the CIS Helpdesk
at x2439.).
You will be prompted to add the driver for that printer. First,
select the correct Manufacturer (e.g. HP for Hewlett Packard).
Then, select the the correct printer model (e.g. Laserjet 4MP).
If you do not see the correct printer model listed, please contact
the CIS Helpdesk at x2439
for further assistance.
- Once this has been completed, choose Start -> Settings
-> Printers and check the properties of the printer you
installed. Make any changes you have to make and click Apply.

- Close the window and the printer will be available to you.
