LPR Printing from Windows 2000

Install LPR port capability

  • From Start -> Settings -> Control Panel, open Network and Dial-up Connections.
  • From the Advanced file menu choose Optional Networking Components…
  • Select Other Network File and Print Services, and choose Details…
  • Check the box for Print Services for Unix and choose OK and Next.

Install Printer

  • From Start -> Settings -> Printers, run Add Printer.
  • From the Welcome to the Add Printer Wizard window, choose Next>
  • Choose Local printer.

  • Choose  Create a new port:  and LPR Port

  • Enter the hostname or ip address of the printer
  • Enter the queue name: lp for HP printers or ps for Tektronix printers.

 

  • Choose the appropriate Manufacturer and Printer model.
  • When prompted to Name Your Printer, choose a descriptive name and decide whether this should be the default printer.
  • In the Printer Sharing window, select:  Do not share this printer
  • Choose to Print a test page and then verify that the specified printer settings are correct.
  • You should now have access to the printer from any windows application.
