LPR Printing

LPR printing is a method by which you "talk" to the printer directly through the IP network protocol. By supplying your printer setup with the IP address of the specific printer you are trying to install, it can then spool documents to that printer based on that IP address. LPR printing is a very good safety net if the Novell Network is having problems or if MAC users are having Appletalk problems. Linux and UNIX workstations already have LPR printing as an option as well as Windows 2000, NT and XP.

MAC: The MAC OS uses a package called Desktop Printer Utility. OS 8.1 and above have this package as part of the install. It can be found on your hard drive at: <Hard Drive>\Apple Extras\ Apple LaserWriter Software\Desktop Printer Utility. For those who have OS 7.5 - 7.61, you can download this utility here. If you do not have either of these operating systems, you can receive an operating system upgrade for CIS by submitting a Service Request. To configure the Desktop Printer Utility, click here.
