Allowing VPN Access
under Windows XP Service Pack 2
When Service Pack 2 for Windows XP is first installed, it turns
on the Windows XPFirewall by default. When the Windows XPFirewall
is turn on, the Cisco VPN client is unable to connect to the remote
host to make a connection. The following instructions opens the
port necessary for the VPN client to connect to the remote host.
To configure the new Windows XP firewall to allow the Cisco VPN
client to work correctly an exception must be added.
- From the Control Panel, choose Security Center.
- Under "Manage Security Settings for:" select Windows
Firewall.
- Choose the Exceptions tab and Add Port…
Enter the Name: Cisco VPN
Port Number: 62515
Select UDP
- Choose OK to accept the new exception.
- Choose OK again to exit Firewall settings.
